Slowness
A little monk saw a pupa in the grass while sitting in the woods. A crack had appeared in the pupa, and it seemed that the butterfly struggling in it could be seen.
The little monk watched quietly for a long time, only to see the butterfly struggling desperately in the pupa, but there was no way to break free from it. A few hours passed, and the little monk was still sitting there watching quietly.
At this time, the children of the forest ranger ran over and saw the struggling pupae on the ground. They picked it up and tore the cracks on the pupae even bigger, and the little monk had no time to stop them.
The child said to the monk, "Master, you are a monk, why don't you even have a little compassion?"
The little monk sighed helplessly and said, "Why are you so impatient? The butterfly is not in a hurry yet, why do you change its destiny so recklessly?"
Sure enough, when the butterfly came out, because the wings were not strong enough, it became very bloated, unable to fly, and could only crawl on the ground.
Blindly seeking quickness and facilitating growth will not only benefit the situation and the disadvantages of others, but it will even endanger the well-being of all living beings. Nirvana in life and death, people are practicing throughout their lives. It's useless to be in a hurry. It's better to slow down and be patient. Maybe things will develop in a better place.
So, in real life, what effects can "slowness" exert?
Slow work can cultivate art. "Slow work leads to meticulous work", and meticulous crafting is to rely on slow work and take your time. A woman in Yangzhou spent 60 years embroidering a statue of Avalokitesvara with her hair. I also personally saw a lady who spent 50 years caring for two patients. Although it seems that their achievements are limited, their lives are immortal in the world of Buddhism.
Walking slowly can maintain health. Modern medicine proves that walking slowly can maintain health. The 100-meter sprint or marathon is suitable for athletes to show off their skills in the arena, but the real health depends on jogging. Although tigers are fierce, they only have enough strength to flop three times; turtles crawl slowly, but they can survive for hundreds of years. The clouds in the sky gather quickly and dissipate quickly; but the gurgling creeks can flow long and thin, not drying up all year round.
Slow talk can nourish. Some people are clumsy at words and are always taciturn; some people are eloquent and like to talk loudly. "One word to rejuvenate the nation, one word to mourn the nation." Those who express high opinions are not good at restraining themselves. Many words are blurted out without thinking. Once trouble is caused, they will regret not the original. Nowadays, you have to speak and express, but noise and noise are unpleasant, so you must speak with restraint, especially the content. If you can speak carefully, you can not only express your self-cultivation, but also increase the weight of your language.
Slow life can support longevity. Modern people are busy with work and fast-paced life, and many "diseases of civilization" are caused by tension and pressure. Everyone might as well slow down the pace of life, don’t eat food, don’t drive too fast, and don’t talk endlessly. The thinking reaction does not need to be too fast, so why not be slow and clumsy? Zheng Banqiao said, "It's rare to be confused," and occasionally be confused, stop for a while, don't compete with people in everything, take days off for years, even the machine will wear out.
